Mark chapter 14, verses 66-72
We are gonna talk about Peter who was the favorite disciples of Jesus Christ. As we know, he was a great follower of Jesus Christ. When Jesus told him “Come, follow me, I will make you fishers of men.” He just began to follow him giving up a lot of things. He had seen all that Jesus has done. So he was the best eyewitness. A lot of miracles, healing, and amazing teaching, he saw and heard everything with Jesus for 3 years. But when Jesus was captured by a religious leader like a great priest, all the disciples of Jesus deserted and fled including Peter, He was faithful and has royalty to Jesus. According to verse 29, even he said that “Even if all fall away, I will not.”
So we have to remember that people can change depending on their situations, especially extreme situations such as the crisis of dying, losing your people and losing a lot of money. Look at Peter. We know that how faithful is Peter how sincere he is. How devoted his whole life to follow Jesus. Even he had overcome a lot of extreme situation with Jesus. However, that was nothing in an extreme situation. what about you? We have faith. We believe God reigns us, God protects us and God loves us. but, when we face difficult situations, we think that where is God? I cannot feel God is here. If God exists, it couldn’t happen, so God cannot exist. That’s our weakness. It depends on your situation, not your faith. Sometimes, faith can be shaken by bad situations. I think that’s not unfaithful, but the process to have a deep faith. We just should believe that even though we have terrible situations, God is with us.and ironically, this experience of betraying to Jesus Christ helped Peter to be a great apostle. What made him to be great apostle? After Jesus has risen and met Peter, Jesus asked him just “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?”, and Jesus said “ take care of my sheep.” Jesus not only forgave him but also give him a mission again as his disciples. After this event, he totally restored himself as disciples of Jesus. And finally, he became a leader of the early church. What I want to say is that the experience of failure makes us strong. we have to remember that if you overcome the crisis, you will be stronger than before and you should believe that God will give you the strength to overcome the hardship. Don’t forget this. God is with us so you can overcome your fear.
